MENOG23: SRv6 uSID - End-to-End Solution for Service Creation with Integrated Measurements
At MENOG23, Ahmed Abdelsalam of Cisco Systems presented “SRv6 uSID - End-to-End Solution for Service Creation with Integrated Measurements.”
SRv6 uSID in an integrated solution that includes the service creation, the measurement, and the analytics. It uses the IP protocol differently than anyone else imagined in the past, but entirely backward compatible. SRv6 uSID can deliver any service without any shim layer. The operator would no longer need neither MPLS nor VxLAN. By removing the shim layers, SRv6 uSID provides better scale, better reliability, lower cost, and seamless deployment in brownfield networks. The SRv6 uSID solution is fully standardized at IETF. It has more than 9 RFCs that covers the Architecture, Data Plane, Control Plane, and Operation & Management (OAM) of the solution.
The SRv6 uSID solution enjoy very rich ecosystem that includes network vendors, merchant silicon, open-source, and operators. All the key network vendors participated in the SRv6 uSID interop testing at EANTC 2023 (eantc.de).
The SRv6 uSID solution has seen several important milestones including the interop testing at EANTC 2023 and key new deployments. In this session, we will provide the latest update on the SRv6 uSID Solution (Technology, Standardization, Deployment, Ecosystem, Interop).
In addition, we will explain the Measurements and Analytics pillars of the SRv6 uSID. These two pillars allow operator to have accurate measurement of the service at scale and bring their attention to the issues and what matters.
Furthermore, we will explain SRv6 uSID use-cases for Peering and Exchange. All IXP/DC sites can be managed using a single transport without interworking function (VXLAN to MPLS) while gaining native IP based ECMP (No labels/Entropy).
